Brutal Robbers!
As soon as I reached my office on Monday, I learned that my close colleague Ryan was no more with us. In a home burglary attempt, robbers had entered his home on the preceding night, robbed them and perhaps when Ryan resisted or tried to grapple with the robbers, he was shot dead by them.
The atmosphere was very morose in the office that day. Wherever I went, people were talking about Ryan and the home burglary. We all had fond memories of the time spent with him as he was a very mild mannered, polite and helpful fellow.
In another ‘attempted’ home burglary just a fortnight or so ago, burglars had tried to break into the house of another colleague of mine in the night. As luck would have it, he had got an elementary home security system installed just a week ago. The moment the alarm went off, the burglars ran away. They were trying to break open a window glass when the alarm warned the home owners.
The very next day, the news had spread in the office like wildfire. Everyone was quite concerned. My colleagues started exploring the different types of home alarms available and the prices and features thereof. Many of us who did not have one at home were discussing whether it would be wise to get one installed now.
For one week or so, we were, off and on, talking about the various home security systems presently available in the market. Many of us were considering economic models which had entry and motion sensors which would warn you in case someone tried to open a door or window or broke a glass to enter your home. Systems with round the clock monitoring, those with SMS/e-mail alerts and those that alert the police if a burglar breaks in or tries to break the keypad (to make it inoperative) were all discussed. Even Ryan was taking an active part in the discussions but it now transpires that he did not have a home alarm system installed.
Exactly after 3 days of Ryan’s demise, we took a collective decision in the office and negotiated with a home security service company to provide multiple models of home security systems in the homes of all the employees. All of us had many options to choose from.
We can at least have a peaceful sleep now, thanks to the new home security system.
